    Why I created AtomicMD

    Medicine is evolving.
Our tools should evolve with it.

Charles Kalash, emergency physician and founder of AtomicMD

In the emergency department, I kept everything in my head, from the first patient to the last: the diagnoses to consider, the tests not to forget, the decisions to make. And after each patient, there was still everything to document, while others were waiting.

Over the years of my practice, I saw how much technology could make our work easier. Today, with the advances in artificial intelligence, the possibilities go much further. Yet we still too often use tools that seem to belong to another era, when our profession demands the very best.

I created AtomicMD to change that. An assistant to think with, one that helps me consider other possibilities, prepares my documents and gradually takes over the tasks that pull me away from my patients.

My vision is simple: to give Québec physicians access to the best technological advances, in tools designed for their reality. Because our time should go to exercising our judgment, caring for patients and being present for them.

    The tool

Does the AI decide anything for me?

No. AtomicMD makes no diagnosis, does not prescribe and does not direct anyone’s care. It suggests; you check, correct and sign every item. Nothing goes into the record without your action.

What if the dictation gets it wrong?

You correct the note like any document: it’s made for that. The transcription knows the vocabulary of emergency medicine in Québec French, and you always review before signing.

    Is AtomicMD available in English?

Yes. The app is available in English: the interface, the notes and the documents. You choose English on the sign-in screen. A few official Québec forms exist in French only and stay in French.

Does it replace my clinical reference?

AtomicMD brings you suggestions in the patient’s context: possible diagnoses, tests and treatments, each with its reason. Your usual reference remains useful to check a dose or explore a diagnosis further.

    What does the research say?

Recent trials show that help from a language model improves physicians’ diagnostic reasoning, and that AI scribes reduce documentation time and burnout. These studies cover other tools: their results do not measure AtomicMD.

The twelve studies are listed under Evidence. To understand how these models answer: AI, explained.

    Which devices can I use?

In the browser, on a computer, tablet or phone, and in the iPhone app. Your shift is the same everywhere.

    Your hospital

How do I use my hospital’s forms?

In the app, on the Documents page, upload your hospital’s blank form once, as a PDF, for each document: the note, the order sheet, the imaging request, the consultation request. You check that each piece of information lands in the right place; from then on, AtomicMD fills it in from each visit, and you print it.

My emergency department has no electronic record. Does it work?

Yes, and it’s the simplest case: AtomicMD fills in your hospital’s paper forms, and you print them. Nothing to copy.

    And with the DSN?

Where Québec’s digital health record (DSN) is in place, the note copies in one click and pastes into the DSN, like any record. AtomicMD does not connect to it directly for now.

Does it replace my institution’s record?

No. AtomicMD is not a medical record: the official record remains your institution’s or your clinic’s. AtomicMD prepares what you put into it (the note, the orders, the official forms), to copy in one click or to print.

    Your data and your patients

    Where does my data go?

It is hosted and processed in Québec, in the Montréal region. Before a model analyzes the text of a case, the name, the health insurance number, the date of birth, the phone numbers and the stretcher are replaced with neutral tokens; the dictation audio is transcribed as is, in Montréal.

Your data is not used to train AI models, by us or our providers. Every account requires a second authentication factor.

The details are on the Trust page.

How long do you keep it?
    48 hours
    dictation audio
    7 days
    transcriptions
    90 days
notes and documents, after the visit is closed
    kept
billing, for your professional and tax obligations

Put into the institution’s record whatever must stay there. You can export your data at any time, in open formats (JSON, HTML, CSV).

Do I have to inform my patients?

Yes. The Collège des médecins du Québec requires the patient’s consent before an AI scribe is used. For a dictation, tell them you are writing your note with an artificial intelligence tool. To listen to an encounter, the patient’s consent is required: the application shows you the sentence to say to them, you confirm their consent in one click, and the recording is deleted within 48 hours. The patient can refuse or withdraw consent at any time, with no effect on their care.

    Billing and the offer

Does AtomicMD send my billing to RAMQ?

Yes. Technologies AtomicMD inc. is registered with RAMQ as a billing agency.

AtomicMD prepares the billing for each shift while you work, and submits it directly to RAMQ once you approve it. Submission begins once your authorization of our agency is signed and confirmed.

Do I keep my billing agency?

It is up to you. AtomicMD is itself a billing agency registered with the RAMQ: transmitting your billing is included.

If you prefer to keep your agency, you export your billing to use with your current billing method.

    How much does AtomicMD cost?

Nothing until March 5, 2027: all of AtomicMD is free. No card is required, and nothing renews on its own.

After that, a free version will remain available, and plans based on your use will start at $99 per month. Prices and terms will be communicated to you in advance, and no payment will be charged without your consent.

    And the TGV certification?

AtomicMD is TGV-certified by the Santé Québec Bureau de certification. This certification attests that the solution meets the requirements of the health and social services sector for security, protection of personal information, performance and technology.
